Anyone can walk the stairs leading up into the palm of the enormous hand that extends toward the mountains near the city of Cebu in the Philippines.
The hand is at Sirao Flower Gardens, where windmills and statues stand among the countless sunflowers, tulips and other plants. Over 1,000 feet above sea level, Sirao is a colorful sanctuary that can only be found in the Philippines, yet it is unlike any other tourist attraction there.
The music of “Life on Bird Mountain” began with a trip Steve Targo took with his family to the Philippines, where they visited Sirao and Seagull Mountain Resort -- which is on a different island, up a different mountain. In Davao, past a giant eagle statue, Seagull offers endlessly breathtaking panoramas and respite from the tropical heat. And a jungle waterfall.
While staying in the Philippines, Targo dreamt of a place called “Bird Mountain,” which encompassed many of the sights he experienced. The way it was in his dream is how it appears in cover photo of this album, which was taken at Sirao.
Perhaps as a way to preserve the dream and the trip, Targo wanted to create a soundtrack for it all -- environmental music for those who visit Bird Mountain, a mythical place residing in his subconscious.
As an album, “Life on Bird Mountain” takes the Inner Travels project someplace new. It is at once a more playful and melodic album, but also more mysterious and experimental.
The intention of this album is the same as all by Inner Travels -- to bring listeners peace.

"Wake" is a full album of very pretty gently-guiding soundscapes that wash the filth of this world from my soul. i've had the tape deck on auto-reverse for hours tonight and yet cannot pick any particular track as a favorite. as a reference point, i suggest "Wake" lies between Woodworkings and recent Chandeen, or perhaps what Lovesliescrushing would have sounded like if they'd been ambient rather than the logical conclusion of shoegaze. do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in this music!
